Erase the Cache in Safari

First of all delete the cache in Safari. To do so you are first require to enable the Develop menu in the menu bar present in the app’s preferences. Various developer-centric features are available in this optional menu. You can also directly clear cache of your Safari browsing session on Mac.
To clear cache in Mac OS X.

  • Open Safari browser on your Mac.
  • Click on Safari Menu in upper left corner and select Preferences, then Advance, and then click on “Show Develop Menu in menu bar” option and then close this Preferences window.
  • Move back to Safari browser window and choose Develop Menu, from the drop down menu, select “Empty caches”. It will remove Safari Caches but without removing saved passwords and browsing history.
  • To remove all cache and browsing history from Safari, go to Safari Menu and select Reset Safari option. Now choose the browsing data you want to remove such as auto-fill entries, history, saved passwords.

Enabling Develop Menu in Safari on Mac will give you access to a keystroke shortcut for deleting caches in Safari using Option + Command + E option. This will provide a faster method to remove cache for a specific page with Shift + Click option.

Remove the Cache files manually

If you observe that all of the cache files are not deleted by clearing cache from within the browser then you can remove these cache files from your system by manual cleaning. For manual cleaning:

  • Some cache files remain hidden in your system, so first of all open hidden Library Files. Special commands are required to open this. To do this, open the Finder menu first which is present at the top of screen. Click on the Go Menu while holding the Option key. From the drop menu select Library folder.
  • Navigate to the cache file is next. From within the Library folder open the cache folder to do this. Find and open “com.apple.safari” folder in the cache folder and select file named “cache.db”. To completely remove your browser’s cache drag this file to the trash can. When you browse a new webpage Safari on your system will automatically create a new “cache.db” file.

You can fix cache problem on your Mac OS X by following these simple steps. You can recover some valuable storage space by removing unnecessary cache files. This will also improve your system performance.
